About Us

Dear Neighbors,

The Livingston Neighbors Association (LNA) is asking for your support. Our grassroots organization stopped Red Wing Sand and Gravel from developing an industrial mining site and bringing it to the Roe Jan mine for processing on County Route 19 back in 2017.

The neighborhood faces another challenge.  Red Wing has operated an existing mine and processing facility on the Roe Jan across from the Elizaville Deli for over 15 years. This mine is coming to the end of it life as it is nearly out of sand and gravel. Red Wing is seeking a permit modification from the DEC  to import large amounts of sand and gravel from the MCR Mine which is next to the transfer station on County Route 19 north of Elizaville.

This will impact the residents of this area in a number of ways.
  • If Red Wing is granted this permit modification it would open the door to the trucking and processing of material on an industrial scale. There will be many large dump trucks and tri-axle trucks on the roads between the MCR mine and the current mine in Elizaville. If Red Wing is granted this permit modification it  will essentially allow this mine to continue processing forever and Red Wing will seek to purchase and or “lease” material from other mines in the area.  No one will be safe from the potential traffic impacts.
  • Local zoning never anticipated the industrial scale of mining Red Wing represents which would  create  dust, noise, and unsafe road conditions for pedestrians, biking, school bus stops, and existing homes and businesses.
We understand that now is a time that many of us are contending with unprecedented levels of stress and instability.  Red Wing has been trying to obtain this permit modification for over two years. LNA has already spent significant sums on attorney fees. Our attorney, John Lyons, specializes in environmental law.  He is working to support the town of Clermont and the towns of Livingston and Milan in opposing this permit modification. He believes there are strong legal arguments against Red Wing’s permit modification request. We need his expertise when this matter comes before the DEC,  Clermont’s planning board and Zoning Board of Appeals.

We need to raise $10,000.  Please consider supporting this important effort.  We are asking for donations of up to $500.
